September 2013 Birchbox Review

My September Birchbox has arrived!  I was excited to see what it would contain since the last couple boxes have been a little "blah".

The theme of the September box is "Heritage" as Birchbox celebrates their third anniversary.  In addition to a great assortment of products, they also included a coupon code for 30% off  from their Customer Favorites Shop.

Here's what my Birchbox contained:

Beauty Protector | Protect & Shampoo - This is a new exclusive item this month.  It is a sulfate-free shampoo which works to protect your hair against heat damage.  It offers UV protection, moisture, volume, shine, and is color safe.

Full Price: $21.95 for an 8 oz bottle.  I would hope that this product lives up to their claims.  I'm not likely to spend that much on shampoo, but you never know...I might use my Birchbox points to buy it one day!

Beauty Protector | Protection & Condition - While I am not normally a fan of receiving two items of the same brand in the same box, at least this time it was a set of shampoo and conditioner.  Like the shampoo, the conditioner is kind of bland in the scent department.  This is also an exclusive item this month.  This daily conditioner offers much the same as it's partner shown above.

Full Price: Again, it's $21.95 for an 8 oz bottle.  Again, I might use my Birchbox points to buy it one day but wouldn't go out of my way to purchase such an expensive conditioner.

Juice Beauty | Green Apple Peel Sensitive - This certified organic peel is for sensitive skin.  Yes please!!  I was expecting a stronger apple scent, but it's pretty mild.  It is "An amazingly effective (and gentle!) peel with fruit-derived acids to dissolve dead skin."  It is recommended for use once or twice weekly.  I am anxious to give this a shot.  I am always looking for great products like this as my skin seems to be changing as I age {I mean, as I "grow up"!}.

Full Price: It is $39.00 for a 2 oz jar.  That does seem steep, but with the way my skin has been behaving lately, I might be willing to spend that much if it works as well as it claims.  Another opportunity to use my points I think!

RUFFIAN | Nail Lacquer - Fox Hunt - This interestingly shaped nail polish bottle contains a reddish-orange shade of polish which I am probably not likely to wear.  Ruffian Nail Lacquer does come in various other shades, of which there are a couple which are more my speed.  This product is another Birchbox exclusive!

Full Price: $10.00 for a 0.17 fl oz bottle of polish.  This seems a decent price.  The color was "ok", but if I could have made my own choice, I would have gone with "Naked" or maybe even "Hedge Fund".

Lifestyle Extra

Soak | Soak Rinse-Free Wash - Soak is for your delicates such as sweaters, swimwear, and ladies' unmentionables.  You can use it for handwashing or even machine washing.  The bonus feature of this product is that it is rinse free.

Full Price: $16.00.  I am not likely to purchase this at all.  It's out of my price range for that type of product.  Besides, I'm probably going to rinse anyway.  It just seems "wrong" to wash something in detergent and not rinse it out!

This month's Birchbox was good.  It was an improvement on the last couple.  There are definitely some interesting products this time around.  There are a few items to consider purchasing, but I'd probably use my points for the purchase as everything was a little pricey in this box.

If you are interested in Birchbox, it's $10 a month for the subscription.  You earn 10 points for every $10 spent.  When you've spent $100, you earn $10 to use in their shop!  You can earn points shopping in their shop as well.  Also, you can earn points by referring friends! To date, I have used about $60 worth of points for free products!

If you already subscribe to Birchbox, what was in your box this month??
