The Daniel Fast - Day 7 Devotional

Today's Day 7 devotional is coming from YouVersion's 21 Day Fast reading plan.  Each day you will find devotional content as well as scripture readings for the day.  The scripture for Day 7 is Mark 14:1-26.

The term "broken and poured out" is the theme for this passage.  The scripture passage tells us that this is a time where those in authority are seeking to capture Jesus.  Jesus is in Bethany at the home of Simon.  A woman breaks open a jar of expensive perfume and pours it out on Jesus.  The woman is chastised by others who said, "It could have been sold for a year's wages and the money given to the poor!"  {Mark 14:5}  Jesus tells them to leave her alone saying:

"You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to.  But you will not always have me.  She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time.  I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman's deed will be remembered and discussed."  {v 7-9}

Later on in the passage, we come the Last Supper.  Jesus is at the table with his disciples, sharing a meal with them when he takes the bread and breaks it saying, "Take this, for this is my body."  {v 22}  He then takes the wine and shares it with his friends saying, "This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people.  It is poured out as a sacrifice for many."  {v 24}

Broken and poured out.

The events described in this passage are transformational.  They precede something that is going to be life changing.  This time of fasting can be a time where we may find ourselves being broken.  It's a journey that causes us to reflect on our lives and how we are using them for God's will for us.  We might be discovering that we need to tweak a few things to get in proper alignment with what He wants for us.  Or we might be finding that we are in need of some radical life changes in order for that to happen.

Something in our life needs to be broken so that all that we have within us can be poured out to do follow God's will for us.  Spend some time reflecting on areas of your life where you think you might need to be broken.  What is it that is keeping you from living the life that God desires for you?  What kind of changes do you see having to occur in order to clear a path for that to happen?  We sometimes put up barriers in our lives that prevent us from living the life that God designed for us.  What if we could tear down some of those walls and open up the floodgates of blessings that are just waiting to be poured out on those around us?

The devotional content for today says:

"Life your life broken and poured out in remembrance of what He has done for you.  How can your life be a living memorial to Christ?  Talk to God about things in your life that need to be broken and poured out like that vase of perfume."

If you are doing a fast right now, how is it going for you?  What are your major challenges right now?  What are you learning so far?  Do you have any advice to share on how to get through the difficult moments of the fast?  I'd love to hear!

I will be sharing devotionals such as this and other ideas to help you through this journey.  If you are reading a bible plan or devotional during this fast, what are you learning?  I would love it if we could share our insights so that we can be a support to each other during this time.  Link up below and grab a button while you're at it!
