The Daniel Fast - Day 13 Devotional

Today's Day 13 devotional is coming from YouVersion's 21 Day Fast reading plan.  Each day you will find devotional content as well as scripture readings for the day.  The scripture for Day 13 is 1 Peter 2.

"So get rid of all evil behavior.  Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.  Like newborn babies you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation.  Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord's kindness."  {1 Peter 2:1-3}

I love this passage.  This chapter is an incredible reminder to us all of who we are.  Right out of the gate, we are told to rid ourselves of "all evil behavior" {v 1}.  Be done with it!  We are to take all the old sinful ways of our past and cast them aside.  Anything that distracts us from God's will for our lives should be tossed aside.  God wants the very best for us.  In order to achieve that, we must do this.  We can't live fully for Him if we are living as slaves to worldly things.  God wants us to seek Him.  He wants us to cry out for knowledge and wisdom that only comes from Him.  He wants us to experience the fullness and richness of life that He has to offer.

As we cast aside our old behaviors, God wants us to become more and more like his Son, who set the perfect example for us.  Christ took on all of our sins so that we could have this full relationship with the Father.

"For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you.  He is your example, and you must follow in his steps."  {1 Peter 2:21}

What are you learning through your time of prayer and fasting?  We are called to be Christ-like.  Perhaps on this journey you have made some discoveries about yourself and your relationship with God.  Is there something that you have come to realize is keeping you from being Christ-like?  That thing might have been completely obvious - and perhaps it is the desire to gain control over that which has been the focus of your time of prayer and fasting.  Or perhaps it is something that you have discovered through this time.

It can be exciting yet scary to learn things about ourselves that we desire to change.  An "aha!" moment of self realization might quickly turn into a fear of moving forward without that hindrance in our lives.  I hope that you are realizing through this time of prayer and fasting that God is with you through this.  He is your strength. It's like the saying, "If God leads you to it, He'll lead you through it."  His desire for us is to know His Son and to understand and believe in the Gospel which is what saves us and allows us to have a full relationship with God.  He wants nothing more than for you to be able to live a life that will allow for that to happen.  It may not be easy, but I believe that one way or another, God will provide the means for you to achieve this.  Lean in to Him and allow Him to lead you!

If you are doing a fast right now, how is it going for you?  What are your major challenges right now?  What are you learning so far?  Do you have any advice to share on how to get through the difficult moments of the fast?  I'd love to hear!

I will be sharing devotionals such as this and other ideas to help you through this journey.  If you are reading a bible plan or devotional during this fast, what are you learning?  I would love it if we could share our insights so that we can be a support to each other during this time.  Link up below and grab a button while you're at it!
