Into the Word Wednesdays - v. 17 - Praying Big Prayers

How often do we pray?  And when we pray, what are out prayers like?  No matter what the needs are, they are surely coming from the heart.  Whether the needs are for yourself, a friend, a co-worker, someone you met in the blog world, for leaders, for a sponsored child across the globe, etc., we present them to our Father and He hears our petitions.

Psalm 116:1 "I love the Lord, because He hears my voice and my prayers." {NLV}

Did you know that God wants to hear all of your prayers?  Not just the simple ones - the ones that are easily laid on our hearts and are for relatively simple needs.  He wants to hear the big prayer requests.  The impossible ones.  The requests that we are so heavily burdened by that it is painful to speak, even in prayer to Him.  God knows all our needs and our burdens.  Nothing we are going through is going to be a surprise to Him!

I think that coming to the Lord with our biggest prayers and petitions is a test of our faith in Him.  How much do we trust God with the big things in our lives?  It's almost like we feel like they are too big for anyone to handle - even God.  Perhaps uttering the words of prayer for these needs is too painful.  But God already knows what is on your heart!  I think there's a thought that if we dig up enough courage to speak these prayers, then that makes the need real.

God is able.  He can do anything and he can even do immeasurably more.  When we truly have faith and confidence in the fact that God is able, it is amazing what our prayers can do.  Go to the Lord with sincere hearts and present all your prayers and petitions to Him.  He hears you and He knows your needs.  Even if you cannot summon up the strength to put a specific prayer into words, He still knows.  But have faith - He hears.  And don't just pray once.  Pray continually.  And be thankful.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Always be joyful.  Never stop praying.  Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." {NLT}
