September 2012 Birchbox - A Review

Since I received my August Birchbox a month ago, I have been really anxious to see what Birchbox would come up with next.  I really loved my August box.  Honestly.  I truly would love to buy one of each item that was in the box.  What you get in your Birchbox is always a mystery until you receive it {unless, of course, you managed to find some spoilers beforehand}.  It's $10 and you're buying a mystery box, so you have to go into it thinking it could be hit or miss - hopefully you get more hits than misses.  August was a definite hit.  September...not so much.

This month's Birchbox is supposed to be representative of the kickoff of fall fashion trends.  The insert card in the box was entitled the september ISSUE.  Included in the box was a little "mini mag" they call The Fall Lookbook.  The page of this little magazine highlight some fall trends in hair, makeup, colors, scents and so on.  Madewell is featured at the end of the little booklet and they have included a $25 gift card towards a purchase of $75 {for Madewell}.  Pretty sure I won't use it, but thanks.

On to the contents of the September Birchbox:

21 Drops is an aromatherapy blend that comes in three scents: Focus, Invigorate, and Sleep.  I really could have used Invigorate for daytime or Sleep for nighttime, but I got Focus.  I guess I could use that too.  This organic rosemary and peppermint blend is applied to the wrists and temples and inhaled throughout the day.  It actually does have a nice scent.  I'm going to say right now that this is my favorite part of the box, although I'm not likely to buy it since it's pretty expensive.  Maybe it's something to consider using my Birchbox points on??

ACK!!!  I got all the way down to the "WEI To Go" item on this list and I noticed a couple big giant welts on my left wrist.  Bummer.

Rating: A {would buy it if it weren't so expensive...and if it didn't make me break out in hives}
Full Price: $29.00 {7.5 ml}

I received Color Club nail polish in this box.  I've received this brand of polish in a past Birchbox and it was nice.  The featured colors this month are Put a Pin In It {silvery}, Status Update {dark charcoal}, Tweet Me {lime green}, and Insta This {royal blue}.  I received - per the label on the underside of the polish - Status Uptade {yes, I said "Uptade" on purpose...there's a typo on the sample!}.  I am smarter than that.  I knew it had to be "Update" before I looked it up online.  Would I buy this color on purpose??  No.

Rating: C+ {I'm sure the product is fine but definitely not buying}
Full Price: $8.00

A sample of kate spade new york "Twirl" was in my box this month.  They describe this as "a blend of fruity and floral notes."  I like it.  It's nice.  But, again, as with all the other perfume samples I've received, they're way more expensive than I'd pay.

Rating: A {would buy it if it weren't so expensive}
Full Price: $80.00 {3.4 fl oz}

A Twistband.  Yes.  I received a hair tie.  I use these but a) I'd rather buy the same exact thing from independent online businesses in order to support my bloggy friends who do happen to sell these.

Rating: C+ {I'm sure the product is fine but definitely not buying}
Full Price: $18.00 {12 ct}

Next up is the WEI To Go Sleep Over Kit which includes a gel cleanser as well as their "Perfect Finish" tinted moisturizer.  Actually this little clean and moisturize kit seems interesting and the price isn't too horrible.  I'm not going to lose any sleep if I forget to make this purchase one day, but it looks alright.

Rating: B+ {like it but may or may not buy}
Full Price: $19.00 {0.5 & 0.33 fl oz each - cleanser and moisturizer}

My "Lifestyle Extra" was a tili bag.  What's a tili bag??  Go to your grocery store and head to the aisle where they sell zip top storage bags.  Grab a box of those...now, you won't have the fancy "designer" picture on the bag, but it will serve the same purpose.  Seriously, Birchbox???

Rating: C- {didn't like it and definitely not buying}
Full Price: $8.49 {12 quart sized bags}

Lastly, there was a link to get a Birchbox Digital Download.  This was a free download of two songs by Tristan Prettyman.  Um.  Ok.  It was free.

If you are interested in Birchbox, it's $10 a month for the subscription.  You earn 10 points for every $10 spent.  When you've spent $100, you earn $10 to use in their shop!  You can earn points shopping in their shop as well.  Also, you can earn points by referring friends! In the past, I used 300 of my points to buy Ahava Mineral Body Lotion.  It was free.  I love this lotion anyway, so I knew I'd love a free one!

If you already subscribe to Birchbox, what was in your box this month??
