When I think of this Psalm, the thoughts of funerals and graveside services come to mind. Why? Because I believe that until recently, this was the only time I had ever heard it.
We once looked at this scripture in church and it caused me to look at it in a whole new light. God desires that we come to Him and rest. The Lord is our Shepherd. He desires that we follow Him so that He can lead us on a path towards restoration. If we abide in Him, we can renew our Spirit.
More than that, God is our comfort. He is our shelter. Our refuge. In those times when we are discouraged, down, weak, uncertain, afraid, and so on, HE is with us. Is is there to carry us during those times. We just need to lean on Him and allow Him in so that we can have the strength we need.
Hopefully this verse will be an encouragement to you if you are going through a rough season right now or even just a rough day or two...or three.
This verse brought to mind the song "Lift Me Up" by The Afters.
