Simply Scripture on a Sunday - v.17

Today we had an awesome message at church.  We're in the second week of a series called "Love Is...", which is based on 1 Corinthians 13.  Today's message was "Why Is Love So Hard."  Friends, this was really an amazing message.  One of the best I've heard.  One I needed to hear.

I could go into much greater detail, but I'll keep it simple.  We need to look at why God created us.  Why do you think He created you?  For a purpose?  To love others?  To do x, y or z??

No.

God created you {and me} so that He could love us.  So that we could be loved.  Our pastor said "Love is so hard because we are trying to give something that we've never learned to receive."  He went on to say that we automatically love our neighbor as ourselves - how we love ourselves is going to be reflected in how we love others, whether it's good or bad.  I think we all know this to some extent, but he said that "the hardest person to love is yourself.  Love yourself and everything else is easy."

Our pastor also shared that in order to give love, we have to learn love.  He said "Jesus did it hard so that we could do it easy.  Why?  So God could get His hands on you."  If you think that God can't love you until you are a certain type of person, you are sorely mistaken.  God love you right where you are.  Unconditionally.  No matter what sins you bring to the table.  No matter what kind of sordid past {or present} you have.  He loves YOU now.  He sent His only son to be born human so that he might die on a cross for our sins.  He loves us that much.  What do we need to do to earn His love?  Nothing.  Our pastor said "God set the conditions and then Jesus met the conditions."  That is how much God values us.

We also need to learn to let go of all of the addictions and idols that are in our lives that are keeping us from God.  Nothing is able to fill us like God's love.  Nothing.  We have love for each other.  We have love from friends and family, but none of that is enough to truly fill us.  We need to allow God into our lives so that we can be filled.  In doing so, we learn what real love is and, therefore, can share that love with others.  We spread that love out of the overflow that comes from being filled with the Father's love.

Learn to let God love you.
Be filled with His love.
Spread that love.
