Operation Smile and You!

I am sure that many of you have heard of the organization called Operation Smile.  If not, they are an internationally known charitable organization that literally brings smiles to little faces around the world.  From their website:

Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft — often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places these children are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can't afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a normal life.
Now, this is not an issue that we have faced in our own family, but certainly we have faced many medical issues where Peyton is concerned.  The difference is this - we have insurance to pay for her treatments, therapies, surgeries, hospitalizations, and so on.  Many times in the past almost six years have I wondered what on earth would we have done without this.  And it's not just having the insurance - it's the access to excellent medical facilities that we have had.  So many families do not have these luxuries.  Without them, I shudder to think where we would be today.

Here is a summary of what Operation Smile does:

Since 1982, Operation Smile — through the help of dedicated medical volunteers — has provided more than 2 million patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

Can you imagine the joy this must bring to these precious families and the children themselves??

Did you know that you might be able to help with this amazing organization?  If you are a college student {or know someone who is}, then please check this out!

Did you know you could rent text books??  Rent them!  I sure wish that had been an option during my years in university in the early '90s!  Want to know more?  You should check out CampusBookRentals!  They provide a text book rental service which is a fraction of the cost of purchasing your text books.  They have an option to buy the books as well by paying the difference.  The best thing about this company is that they have partnered with Operation Smile: supports
The children of Operation Smile

We're ecstatic to announce our 2011 Making a Difference Program. We have officially teamed up with Operation Smile, an out of this world, awesome organization, that performs life changing cleft lip surgeries on children whose families could not otherwise afford it. The long term Improvement in quality of life for the children that receive these surgeries is almost incomprehensible. We have committed to donating enough to cover a minimum of 1,000 life changing surgeries. We hope To beat that number, but it's a significant commitment.

So for EVERY book rented starting now, we will donate a portion of those proceeds to Operation Smile with our sights set on meeting and exceeding our goal of 1,000 lives changed. So add that extra book to your cart, and consider this goal as you go back to school this year. Thank you for your support.

You can find all the information about Operation Smile on their website.

If you are in college, why don't you consider renting your text books!  And if you are renting your text books, won't you consider using CampusBookRentals and know that your rental helps to promote the amazing work of Operation Smile.

{I was contacted by CampusBookRentals and agreed to write this post.  This is a paid endorsement.  Please know that I will only ever endorse products or organizations that I feel are a good fit for this blog and are products or organizations that I would consider supporting outside of this blog.}
