How Do We Bless or Encourage Others?

It has occurred to me post-surgery to wonder, once again, how we as Christ-followers encourage, bless, or lift up those around us who are in need.  It has been amazing to see the blessings people can be to others during a time of great need or crisis.  Interestingly {and unfortunately}, you see both sides, but I'll focus on the good for now.

What do we do?  What can we do?

Perhaps it's a simple facebook chat message or wall post asking how the person is doing.  Or a text message or email or tweet.  So many simple ways to encourage or brighten up someone's day that might be, for them, a fairly bleak or even miserable one.

Perhaps it's the gift of flowers to brighten up a room and bring cheer to the person who is under the weather, going through a tough time, or who is just down.

Have we lost touch with those around us?  Do we even realize that someone we know is going through something?  Or are we surprised by it when we see them in passing shortly after the event?

Do we lift up through kind words?  Sharing scripture with someone?  Sharing a story of hope and encouragement to the person?  Offering prayers?

Do we lift up through our kind and generous acts?  Provide a meal?  Provide babysitting assistance?  Or maybe if you're in our situation, you're like our regular home nurse who decides of her own will to volunteer to come in first thing in the morning to take care of Peyton's medicines and all her respiratory/breathing treatments because you know that otherwise these needs couldn't easily be met {I can't even lift Peyton right now...so she'd otherwise stuck in her crib until 2pm when the nurse's shift starts}.  Are there things we can see that can be done to help bless the person in need?  Simple acts.  Random acts of kindness.  Things that could make life just that much easier for someone in need?

Just some random thoughts on encouraging, blessing, and lifting up those around us who are in need of assistance.  That's just people we know.  What if we were to spread out to those we don't??  Imagine what we could do then!

Galatians 6:2 (NIV)

2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
