adj.Incapable of being shaken: unshakable faith
As I move into the fourth chapter of "Being a Woman of Simplicity" by Cynthia Heald, I find myself moving into more difficult territory on this journey. The first three chapters are not easy - they are challenging. This book is an exercise for every day, not just something to read casually and put away when it's all over. So what, you may ask, is it that is so much more challenging?
Pain. Sorrow. All manner of difficulties.
God guarantees us that we will have trials and tribulations in this world. There's no "IF". It is an absolute certainty. Look around you. It is a certainty that every person you see has faced some form of trouble in their life. If they haven't, they will.
We want to be able to rest and find peace in the Lord. We want to be able to live in simplicity. But trials get in the way of that, don't they?? I don't personally have the answers to all the world's problems, nor have I gone about facing all of my own personal trials in the manner I'm learning about in this book. However, I will share with you some things that I have taken from this chapter:
- God wants for us to remain steadfast in our faith and belief in Him, even during difficult times;
- God wants for us to lean on Him when times are tough;
- God equips us with what we need in order to endure our trials and He blesses us with the ability to persevere;
- Our trials are opportunities for joy - joy in knowing that our strength comes from the Lord; joy in knowing that our troubles will only last but a short time compared to the eternity with our Father which awaits us; joy in the discovery of whatever blessings may result from what you have had to endure.
New International Version (NIV)
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Lean on God in order to get through the difficulties that you are presented with today. Focus on Him. Let Him be your strength, your guide, your rock, your foundation, your comforter. Keep your eye on Him and the promise of what awaits you. Don't waste time worrying about things that you have no control over or about things you only think or assume might happen. Give your troubles up to God and remain steadfast in Him.
Use your trials and tribulations as opportunities to grow. Abide in Christ and seek the wisdom that can only be found in Him. Do not waver in your faith. Remain in Him and be...
New Living Translation (NLT)
33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
